Programme

Act III · Sunday, September 20

One last look around.

A city walk together before we head home.

We’ll park near Lucas Oil Stadium and take a roughly four-mile walk past the city’s landmarks. These times are a guide: linger where we like, shorten the canal if we need to, and be back at the car by 11:25.

Notes, menus & places
  1. 8:00AM

    First steps

    Start by the stadium.

    8:00–8:20 AM

We’ll begin on the stadium’s north side. Once the bags are in the car, we can set off toward Victory Field.

Lucas Oil Stadium500 S. Capitol Avenue, Indianapolis, IN
    Along the way
    • This is a walk-by, not a stadium tour.
    • If you drove downtown, plan to return to the same parking spot by about 11:25 AM.
  2. 8:20AM

    Past the ballpark

    A look at Victory Field.

    8:20–8:40 AM

The ballpark and skyline make a lovely first glimpse of downtown on the way into White River State Park.

Victory Field501 W. Maryland Street, Indianapolis, IN
    Along the way
    • The ballpark is a scenic exterior stop; the morning route does not depend on a game or stadium access.
  3. 8:40AM

    Room to roam

    Into White River State Park.

    8:40–9:20 AM

The park paths take us past the Eiteljorg, Indiana State Museum, and NCAA Hall of Champions. We can enjoy them from outside today.

White River State Park801 W. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN
    Along the way
    • The Eiteljorg opens at noon on Sundays, after the airport departure. The Indiana State Museum opens at 10 AM, but a proper visit needs more time.
    • The zoo is nearby, but even a short visit would replace most of this walk.
    Park guide ❦
  4. 9:20AM

    By the water

    Follow the Canal Walk.

    9:20–10:05 AM

Follow the water north to the USS Indianapolis Memorial, then turn back toward downtown.

USS Indianapolis MemorialNorth end of the Canal Walk, Indianapolis, IN
    Along the way
    • The memorial is outdoors and generally accessible from dawn to dusk.
    • This is the longest walking leg. If the group wants a shorter morning, enjoy only the southern canal and skip the memorial.
    Memorial details ❦
  5. 10:05AM

    Around the Circle

    Statehouse to Monument Circle.

    10:05–10:50 AM

From the Statehouse, we’ll follow Washington Street to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Plenty to look at along the way.

Monument Circle1 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN
    Along the way
    • The Statehouse is closed on Sundays. The monument’s observation level is open Fridays only, so this is an exterior stop.
    • SPARK on the Circle is scheduled to open at 11 AM on September 20; the main route passes earlier.
    Monument hours ❦
  6. 10:50AM

    The last stretch

    One more stop at Gainbridge.

    10:50–11:25 AM

One more look at the Fieldhouse, then we’ll turn west for the car. If we’re behind, we can head straight back.

Gainbridge Fieldhouse125 S. Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis, IN
    Along the way
    • If the group is behind schedule at Monument Circle, skip the Fieldhouse and head straight back to the car.
    • Allow a few minutes to get out of the parking area before the airport drive.
  7. 11:35AM

    Time to head home

    Off to the airport.

    Leave downtown by 11:35 AM

Let’s leave downtown by 11:35. That gives us room for traffic and gets us to the airport around 12:15, two hours before takeoff.

Indianapolis International Airport7800 Col. H. Weir Cook Memorial Drive, Indianapolis, IN
    Along the way
    • The two-hour airport arrival target assumes a domestic flight. For an international flight, the airport recommends arriving three hours before departure, so this walk would need to end earlier.
    • Confirm the exact flight time, terminal needs, and live traffic the night before.
    Airport arrival guidance ❦

Until next time, Indy.
